Why Choose Parents as Teachers?
Family Resources
Parents as Teachers (PAT) is a free, voluntary home visiting program that works to build strong communities, thriving families, and children who are healthy, safe, and ready to learn. Parents as Teachers strives to become a family's parenting partner by connecting parents and caregivers with parent educators. Parent educators make regular personal home visits during a child’s earliest years in life, beginning at the prenatal stage through the child's entrance into kindergarten.
The program provides parenting education and family support that builds protective factors, especially for those families in vulnerable situations. The program is relationship-based and parenting-focused. Parent educators focus on parent-child interaction, development-centered parenting, and family well-being; on strengths, capabilities and skills; and on building protective factors within the family. Our Parents as Teachers program provides four components of support to our families:
Personal Visits
Group Connections
Screenings
Resource Network
Services are provided primarily in the home and through group connection activities. There is no charge for Parents as Teachers services, and participation is entirely voluntary.
